Techniques to cross the language barriere, including language specific knowledge poor techniques to extract information.

Text indexation using multilingual thesauri, cross-language document similarity, document clustering, machine learning classification, information extraction and visualisation.

Main developements:

• NewsExplorer allowing to browse the news across languages.
• Names in the news: Various application using extracted names in various languages to compute social networks, quotations in news etc.
• Acquis communautaire: a highly multi lingual corpus (containing about 23,000 parallel texts in 21 languages).
